Laser engraviving between two concentric circles

I am new to laser cutting and I am using an old HPC Laserscript laser cutter with techsoft 2D Design software. Can anyone tell me how I would engrave the area between two concentric circles? I use black to denote areas to engrave but if the outer circle is is black will it not just completely fill everytging inside it including anything inside the second circle?
Hope someone can help.
