Hi all, we get aluminium parts machined, and then anodised and dyed sky blue (RAL 5015). I want to create bright white lettering and graphics on the surface, as high contrast as possible. I am told (by Co-pilot!) that this is done by using a UV (355nm) laser that destroys the dye within the anodization layer, thereby leaving the white anodization layer largely intact. Co-pilot also says that using an IR laser will result in heating of the anodization layer, thereby either melting it to a glassy finish, or etching it away to leave the bare silvery Al surface, neither of which I want. Is Co-pilot correct in that I really need a UV laser for this? I would really welcome any imput from anyone who also does this process.
